If you love steak and frites you could be part of my club! I always say there’s no mistake in the meat + potatoes formula, right?
So you can imagine how glad I was to find the perfect place to eat steak and frites in Toronto. Le Seléct Bistro was recommended by a friend and is now on my list of top places to dine in the city.
It’s a french bistro serving the most iconic dishes of French cuisine, including steak and frites, since 1977.
Besides the dishes, Le Seléct Bistro is also known for its huge wine variety. Seriously, the wine menu looks like a book! There you can find the perfect wine to pair with your meal, and they’re not only from France, but all around the world.
As an appetizer, my husband and I ordered a traditional french onnion soup (Soupe à l’oignon gratinée $ 16.95) to share between us. It was a great call because the soup is fantastic but heavy if you try to eat it all by yourself and have another dish after. If you’d like to have only the soup I would say go for it, order an entire bowl for you.
I don’t even have to say I ordered the steak and frites (Pavé de boeuf au poivre » $ 35.95) and… OMG… I felt like in Paris. It made me remember some lunches we had in France. It was a really nostalgic dinner.
To pair with our dishes (my husband ordered the same) we chose Chateau La Justice Fronsac 2015.
As for the ambiance, this bistro is perfect for romantic dinners. We enjoyed the privacy of a little table at the end of the restaurant. They have big tables as well for groups and reserved space for private gathering.
