When we moved to Canada 3 years ago we did not have much money to spend on furniture.
Let's say that even made the choice easier because I decided to buy the cheapest furniture.
That's how the Tärendö table, which only costs 39 CAD, has joined our family.
Since then a lot has changed, but to be honest I never liked this table. First because it is black, which makes the room decor darker. Second because I always saw it as a cheap table.
This spring we are making some changes in the room because we want to make it more vibrant. We ordered some more furniture at Ikea, bought plants and… of course, we needed to change this table!
While we can already renovate our room, still could not do anything too expensive. Then my marble table was postponed for a few months (but one day it will come!).
That's when I had the idea of painting the Tärendö table and getting rid of that black in the room.
And as the idea is finally to buy my marble table in a few months, this was the time to take the risk and try something bold: why not paint with a very bright color?
For the top I chose a teal and for the feet a gold. I confess that I was very afraid of not matching, but… if it did not work, it was only for a few months.
In the end everything was fine, so I'm going to tell you my process:
Ikea Tärendö Table Painting Material
Wood / wall paint
DIY Ikea Table Step by Step
1.Protect the metal part with an adhesive tape.
2. Lightly sand the table top (actually, it's more for cleaning than for sanding). Pass the first coat of paint, always in the same direction. Let it dry.
3. Pass as many layers of paint as you need to cover the wood. Always wait for dry between applications.
4. Finish by moving the ink brush from one side to the other without interrupting. This will help to spread the paint evenly, avoiding stains.

5. Remove the table top.
6. Apply spray paint to the table legs as many layers as needed (in my case, they were two layers). Wait to dry and set the table again.
And that is my table at the end of the process:
As you can see, it changes the room, giving more life to the house.
The tip I give is to think very carefully before deciding the color. In my case, I took a lot of risk, but remember that I will not be spending much time with this table. If you are a person who tires very fast in color or feels overwhelmed with a lot of visual stimulation, maybe neutral tones are best for you.
